Langst-Kierst

Langst-Kierst is a district of Meerbusch in North Rhine-Westphalia with about 1000 inhabitants.

history

The first documentary mention took place in the year 904. Thus in 2004 the 1100-year existence of the small community could already be celebrated.

From 1392 to 1794 Langst and Kierst belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office of Linn .

Langst-Kierst was incorporated into Meerbusch on January 1, 1970. In 1974 the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to dissolve the city of Meerbusch and to divide Langst-Kierst into the cities of Krefeld (main part) and Düsseldorf . However, the city of Meerbusch obtained the suspension of the dissolution decision at the constitutional court in Münster . The state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia then confirmed the existence of the city of Meerbusch in 1976.

Langst-Kierst is known beyond the region for the ferry connection to Kaiserswerth across the Rhine . However, this connection lost its importance with the inauguration of the airport bridge in 2002.
