history

From 1392 to 1794 Ossum and Bösinghoven belonged to the Electoral Cologne office of Linn .

Ossum-Bösinghoven was incorporated into Meerbusch on January 1, 1970.

In 1974 the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to dissolve the city of Meerbusch and to divide Ossum-Bösinghoven into the cities of Krefeld (main part) and Düsseldorf. However, the city of Meerbusch obtained the suspension of the dissolution decision at the constitutional court in Münster . The state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia then confirmed the existence of the city of Meerbusch in 1976.

Buildings

Saint Pankratius, Ossum
New Apostolic Church Bösinghoven

Catholic Church of St. Pankratius Ossum

The St. Pankratius chapel is in the Ossum district . The middle wing from the 11th century is the oldest originally preserved nave in Meerbusch and was built from 1 m thick Eifel tuff . The oldest interior of the chapel is the dark benches in the central part, which date back to 1744.

In 1868 the chapel was expanded with the addition of a choir and in 1911 with a bell tower. The bell itself dates from 1649 and bears the inscription "SANCTA MARIA ORA PRO NOBIS, NICOLAS UNCKEL GUSZ MICH 1649" ("Holy Mary, pray for us, Nicolas (Nikolaus) Unckel poured me 1649"). The rectorate to the right of the chapel was built in 1937/1938. The present sacristy was built after the old one was demolished in 1941. The clock above the front door from the Lanker Church was electrified in 2001 after a generous donation. The entrance area was redesigned in 2003.

War memorial

Monument erected in 1921 for the dead of the First World War , is now a listed building.

House Gripswald

The old manor house Gripswald is located south of Ossum on the edge of the Herrenbusch . It consists of a two-storey main house with an attached round tower. Romanesque double columns from the Knechtsteden monastery near Dormagen were used above in the facade of the tower .

The house was mentioned for the first time in the 13th century, raised to a feudal estate in 1422 and remained in electoral property until secularization . In the 19th century, the manor came into the possession of the von Arenberg family , who also owned the neighboring Pesch Castle (see below).

Gripswald matron stones

The Roman matron stones found near the Gripswald house in 1863 are now in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn. A copy stands in front of the Church of St. Pankratius.
