The ferry Stadt Boppard is a car ferry across the Rhine in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It connects the city of Boppard on the left bank of the Rhine at Rhine kilometer 570 with the right bank of the Rhine at Filsen and is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley . It is the only ferry between Sankt Goar and Koblenz .

The ferry, built by Berninghaus in Duisburg in 1892 , consists of a double hull with a loading platform and is loaded from the side. The ferry was initially operated without its own drive in the form of a yaw ferry . Until 1910 it operated as a state ferry owned by the city of Boppard. During a repair in 1945–47, war-related damage was removed.

"Schottel Navigator" drive unit at the bow of the ferry

In 1954/55 the Schottel shipyard in Spay carried out a conversion with motorization (construction number 009/55). A complete drive unit consisting of an air-cooled eight-cylinder diesel engine, coupling, cardan shaft and a Schottel rudder propeller (SRP) ("Schottel Navigator"; construction number 370/61) was installed at the bow, and a technically identical drive was installed in the engine room below the wheelhouse. It is controlled mechanically via shafts and roller chains.
At the beginning of 2010 the ship was overhauled in the Mittelrhein shipyard in Oberwinter .

The ferry is a member of the German Ferry Association.

Since April 1, 2012 it has been possible to use the ferry with a transport association ticket from the Rhein-Mosel transport association.

The ferry runs every 20 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. during the summer months.
