The Bonn-Oberkassel train station is a train station on the Right Rhine Line in the Beuel district of Bonn in the Oberkassel district .

history

The station was opened in the course of the extension of the railway line on the right bank of the Rhine from Neuwied to Oberkassel and the construction of the Bonn – Oberkassel trajectory on July 11, 1870, initially under the name Obercassel b.Bonn .

After the suspension of the train service in 1919, the station retained its function, as the goods traffic of the cement factory at that time continued to be carried out here. Furthermore, a newly established shipyard used the trajectory siding. At times, 13 officials were employed at the station. In the Second World War , during the first bombing raid in the Allied air war on one of the locations in the Siebengebirge area, two high-explosive bombs fell on the station complex, only one of which exploded and damaged side tracks and outbuildings.

With the decline of the cement works, the freight facilities of the station (several freight tracks, loading street ) also lost their importance. Since then, of the formerly spacious track systems, only the two direction tracks that are used by freight trains and local trains running on the Rhine were in operation. The remaining tracks, including the still signposted track 203 in the direction of Koblenz, were dismantled in 2008 together with the overhead line systems. At the end of October 2011, the superstructure in the south direction of the train station was renovated. Instead of the originally laid wooden sleepers, concrete sleepers are now used.

The historic station building stands including the attached platform canopy as a monument under monument protection and is used as a private residence, office space and restaurant use.

passenger traffic

The station is run by Deutsche Bahn in category 5 and is served every hour by trains of the RE 8 and the RB 27, which therefore complement each other at approximately half-hourly intervals. The Bonn-Oberkassel Nord tram and tram stop is located near the train station , from where there is a connection to Bonn Central Station .

planning

The Template: future / in 5 yearsextension of the S-Bahn line from Troisdorf to Oberkassel, which is currently under construction, should increase the importance of the station. After the completion of the route, the S-Bahn line 13 of the Cologne S-Bahn will continue to commute to the west of Cologne every 20 minutes between Bonn-Oberkassel via Cologne / Bonn Airport and Cologne Hbf . Extensive construction work will be necessary at the Bonn-Oberkassel train station in order to implement the appropriate track layout and the planned turning system for the S-Bahn.
