The Pulheim station is the station of the city of Pulheim at the Cologne-Mönchengladbach railway . It is located between the Cologne-Bocklemünd train station , which was closed in the early 1970s, and the Stommeln train station , 11.5 km from the Cologne-Ehrenfeld train station .
The railway went into operation on April 1, 1899 after years of dispute about the exact route and the actual start of construction over its entire length, after the section from Grevenbroich to Pulheim had been completed six months earlier . Pulheim train station was located on the southwestern edge of what was then the city on the track running in the southeast-northwest direction. Until 2007 the building had housed the dispatcher; today the route is controlled from Duisburg.
building
The traufständige , two-storey four-axle-station building corresponds to the Prussian type of unit , as it was used by many stations, such as the neighboring station Stommeln , but here the shed is attached directly to transport goods, or the station Rommerskirchen . While the dispatcher's administration rooms and ticket sales were located in the basement, an official apartment was located on the upper floor. A single-storey, two-axis waiting room and a brick goods shed were added. It is noteworthy that the roof surfaces including the purlins at the Pulheim train station protrude only a little beyond the wall surfaces and that the uniform wall design in brick means that elements such as cornices and round arches are visually receding.
The station building facing the city was completed in 1898 and placed under monument protection on June 16, 1992 . Today it is used as a residential building and kiosk.
terrain
Extensive construction work, which was only completed in 2007 after ten years, has changed the central platform to two outer platforms. The southern part of the railway area is now covered with a parking garage .
During various renovations by Deutsche Bahn , most recently in the 1990s, the loading platform was removed and brick shelters were built on both platforms of the double-track railway line, including a platform underpass with stairways on the two outer platforms.
service
The train station is served by the RE8 and RB27 lines, which together run every half hour to Mönchengladbach , Cologne and Koblenz .
