Seffent is a small town with 200 inhabitants in the western Aachen district of Laurensberg .
The name is derived from the Latin Septem Fontes , the "Seven Sources ", known today as " Seven Sources ". The springs arise from an enclosed spring pot and are the strongest springs within a 70 km radius. They feed the torrent that flows through the whole of Laurensberg and finally flows into the Wurm . Between 1929 and 1977 water from the “Seven Springs” was pumped by means of two centrifugal pumps to an elevated tank on the Wachtelkopf, part of the Schneeberg , with which Vaals and a large part of the local textile companies could be supplied.
Not far from the springs is the historic Seffent Castle , which today houses a modern residential complex and a restaurant.
It is documented that the Lorraine King Zwentibold handed over the Carolingian mansions Seffent and Schurzelt, side courtyards of the Aachen Palatinate, to his relative, the abbess Gisela von Nivelles , daughter of King Lothar II of Lorraine, in 896 . After Gisela's death, the court fell back into imperial ownership and was later one of the allodial creations in the Aachen empire , that is, the property of the Aachen city nobility.
