Nütheim is a town belonging to the Kornelimünster / Walheim district of Aachen . The place is about 11 km south of Aachen city center on the edge of the Eifel and is in the immediate vicinity of Schleckheim.

history

Since 1804 Nütheim belongs together with neighboring places to the municipality Walheim , which was incorporated into the city of Aachen on January 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reorganization. Since then, these localities have belonged to the Aachen district of Kornelimünster / Walheim .

Old manor

The entire area belonged to a donation from Ludwig the Pious to Bernhard von Aniane to found a monastery in Kornelimünster.

The oldest evidence of settlement comes from Roman times. The Roman roads can be seen as the lifelines of their rule. The remains of their villas and other finds still bear witness to this past.

A main Roman road went from Cologne via Kornelimünster in the direction of Maas via Bavai in Burgundy to the south and then to Rome. This road led east of Kornelimünster coming from the north-east height, over the ford of the Inde and rose again on the southern slope, ran over Nütheim, at that time called Notum, towards the west (Kinkebahn).

The village of Nütheim was formed along this path. On the south side of the Iter, a small stream between the places Nütheim and Walheim, the soil conditions for arable farming and cattle breeding on the edge of the northern Eifel were particularly favorable as a basis for life, so that agricultural use developed there. This has remained the case to this day.
