Location of Weiden in North Rhine-Westphalia

Weiden is a district of Würselen in the Aachen city region in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1935, Weiden was an independent municipality in what was then the Aachen district of the Prussian Rhine Province .

geography

In 1925 the community Weiden had an area of 9.67 km². Today the Aachener Kreuz industrial area is also located in the former municipality of Weiden.

history

Weiden was originally one of seven quarters of the Aachen Empire . Since the French era and Prussia took possession of the Rhineland in 1815, Weiden has formed its own mayor's office and rural community in the Aachen district of the Rhine Province. In addition to the actual church village of Weiden, the small villages of Dommerswinkel, Feld, St. Jobs and Wersch were also listed as parts of the municipality of Weiden in the 19th century. On January 1, 1935, Weiden was merged with the neighboring municipality of Broich to form the municipality of Broichweiden . The historical border between the two former communities is still marked today by a landmarked boundary stone where the (Weidener) Hauptstraße becomes the (Broicher) Jülicher Straße . In 1972 Broichweiden was incorporated into Würselen.
