Övedskloster Castle

Övedskloster Castle , seven kilometers northwest of Sjöbo in the historical province of Skåne , is one of Sweden's most perfect Rococo mansions .

The castle, which is located near Vombsjön , on the site of a former Premonstratensian monastery - hence the name - was built between 1768 and 1776 according to plans by the architect Carl Hårleman on behalf of Colonel Hans Ramel. The main building made of red sandstone stands out clearly from the four whitewashed side buildings, which are connected by walls and form an imposing courtyard . The Gustavian style furnishings were designed by the architect Jean Eric Rehn .

As Fideikommiss , the castle is still owned by the Ramel family . Since 1982 it has been a listed building as Byggnadsminne .

Others

The castle is described in the third chapter of Selma Lagerlöf's novel The wonderful journey of little Nils Holgersson with the wild geese .
