Carl Hårleman
Carl Hårleman (born August 27, 1700 in Stockholm ; † February 9, 1753 ibid) was a Swedish architect and politician.
Live and act
Hårleman studied with Göran Josuae Adelcrantz and received a scholarship in 1721 that enabled him to study in Italy and France . In 1727 he was called back to Sweden to take part in the construction work on the Stockholm Palace , which he took over management from the 1740s.
With the summer palace Svartsjö , Hårleman created a rococo style with Swedish characteristics, which was to dominate the construction of castles and mansions over the next few decades. He also worked as a garden architect.
But Hårleman was also politically active. As a member of the Reichstag , he was a staunch supporter of the hat party during the period of freedom . From 1743 to 1753 he was a member of the Secret Committee, the center of power in Sweden at the time.
The decoration of today's Bernadotte Library in Stockholm Castle , originally designed for another library, was made by him.
