Olof Tempelman

Olof Samuel Tempelman (* 21st February 1745 in the parish Källstad , province Östergötland County ; † 27. July 1816 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish architect . He is considered an important representative of the Gustavian style .

Olof Tempelman began to study theology and humaniora in Uppsala in 1763, but then turned to the natural sciences. In 1769 he was employed as a copyist at the building authorities, where he began to be interested in architecture. In 1779 he became a professor at the art academy. Following his appointment, he made trips to Italy, France and Germany, where he picked up neoclassical influences. In the following years he developed into an important representative of the Gustavian style. Gustav III's pavilion is one of his main works . in Hagapark (1787), which became a model for later mansions, the high school of Härnösand (1785), the Botanikum in Uppsala (1787) and the church of Forsmark (1793). Further works are the manor house Hellekis u. a. In 1799 he was appointed court architect.

Olof Tempelman married Britta Elisabet Gylenstam's first marriage in 1782, who died two years later, and Dorothea Catherina Pagenkopff's second marriage in 1804. A daughter from the first marriage died in infancy and of the five children from the second marriage, only three girls survived childhood.
