Achselschwang is a district of the municipality of Utting am Ammersee in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech .

geography

The Achselschwang estate is located about four kilometers northwest of Utting am Ammersee.

history

The Keltenschanze south of Achselschwang is well preserved . In Roman times the Via Raetia ran through the estate. Achselschwang is mentioned for the first time in a document in 760 in a document by Tassilo III , in which he bequeathed the income from the estate to the Wessobrunn monastery . In the years 1141 and 1197 this right was confirmed papally. As part of an exchange, Achselschwang came into the possession of the Dießen monastery in 1388 .

In 1622 horse breeding began on Achselschwang, but the estate was looted by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War and almost all of its inventory was auctioned in 1803 in the course of secularization . As early as 1813, however, a military foal farm was established here again. In 1864 the royal stud was relocated to Achselschwang and dissolved again in 1952.

Since 1953 the teaching, testing and specialist center for dairy and cattle husbandry Achselschwang of the Bavarian state has been located on the estate . The estate belonged to the formerly independent municipality of Hechenwang until December 31, 1971 and was incorporated into Utting am Ammersee on January 1, 1972. The horse keeping and the riding business were leased from 2003. The teaching, testing and specialist center for dairy and cattle husbandry has been a net state enterprise since 2020 and has been part of the Bavarian State Assets since January 1, 2020. In the course of the new economic system, the institute was renamed the "Experimental and Educational Center for Cattle Feeding, Achselschwang State Estate" and is responsible for the further training of prospective farmers. Among other things, the state estate conducts feeding trials as part of a more environmentally friendly dairy industry.
