Karl Schultz (rider)

Karl Schultz (born November 6, 1937 in Bad Schwartau ) is a former German eventing rider who won three medals in two Olympic starts.

Karl Schultz grew up on a farm and began eventing in 1960. In 1971 he finished 13th at the European Championships . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Schultz and the ten-year-old gelding Pisco were nominated for the German team. As 16th in the individual ranking he belonged together with Harry Klugmann , Lutz Goessing and Horst Karsten to the German team that received the bronze medal behind the teams from the United Kingdom and the United States.

At the European Championships in 1975 in Luhmühlen , Schultz took eighth place as an individual rider. In 1976, Schultz and Madrigal qualified for the German team at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. In the individual standings, he finished third behind the Americans Edmund Coffin and John Michael Plumb . Together with Herbert Blöcker , Helmut Rethemeier and Otto Ammermann , Schultz won the silver medal behind the team from the United States.

In 1980, Schultz again won a silver medal with the German team: At the Festival international de concours complet de Fontainebleau , the replacement competition for the boycotted Olympic Games in Moscow, he was again at the start with Madrigal .

Karl Schultz, who belonged to the Bad Schwartau riding club , took over his parents' farm as a farmer.
