Helmut Rethemeier

Helmut Rethemeier (born June 8, 1939 in Vlotho ) is a former German eventing rider who won the Olympic silver medal with the team in 1976.

Helmut Rethemeier started for Fridericus Rex Valdorf . Rethemeier took fifth place in the individual ranking at the 1975 European Championships in Luhmühlen . In 1976 he and eight-year-old Pauline qualified for the German team at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. In the individual ranking, Rethemeier took 19th place. Together with Karl Schultz , Herbert Blöcker and Otto Ammermann , Rethemeier took second place behind the team from the United States and received the silver medal. In addition, he and his team were honored with the silver bay leaf.

In 1978 Rethemeier won the silver medal at the World Championships in Lexington on Ladalco together with Otto Ammermann, Harry Klugmann and Herbert Blöcker .

Rethemeier missed the 1980 Olympic Games because of the Olympic boycott . At the alternative festival in Fontainebleau he was the best German rider, as an individual rider he came in ninth with Santiago .

Rethemeier did not win a German championship title, his best placement in 1981 was second place behind Horst Karsten . Rethemeier celebrated his greatest success in 1982 at the World Championships in Luhmühlen, on Santiago he won the silver medal in the individual competition behind the Briton Lucinda Green . Together with Dietmar Hogrefe , Herbert Blöcker and Rüdiger Schwarz , he also received the silver medal in the team competition.
