The German Sport Horse is a warmblood horse breed that has been bred since 2003 . It was created through the creation of a common breeding book of origin for their riding horse population of the horse breeding associations Berlin-Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia.

Due to the fact that the German sport horse is a very young breed, the exterior and interior are largely identical to the breeds from which they emerged.

Background information on horse evaluation and breeding can be found under: Exterior , interior and horse breeding .

Exterior

The aim of breeding for the German Sport Horse is a horse that meets the following criteria: an elegant, large-lined and harmonious sport horse with a dry and expressive head, a large eye, well-formed neck, plastic muscling, as well as correct, clear limbs and one that fits the body, dry foundation. In addition, rhythmic, expansive basic gaits are desired.

interior

According to the given breeding goal, the horse should be willing to stand by the aids , radiate serenity and basically be uncomplicated, sociable and enthusiastic. There should be facilities for skilful, wealthy, cautious jumping with an overview. The horses should also be used for people who practice horse riding as a leisure activity.

Breeding history

prehistory

Up until the Second World War , horse breeding in Germany was strongly regional. The war itself and the transfer of horses to the Soviet Union as reparation payments led to a sharp drop in the number of horses in the former Soviet occupation zone , from 1949 the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In addition, the onset of motorization, also in agriculture, led to further problems in horse breeding, which were mainly kept as work horses. In the years 1970/1971 a central office for horse breeding was established at the Ministry of Agriculture of the GDR , which aimed for a standardized, export-oriented horse breeding. Therefore the noble warmblood of the GDR was created instead of the previous horse breeding . After German reunification, horse breeding associations were founded in the individual federal states and the regional breeders were re-established. These include the Mecklenburg Warmblood , the Brandenburg Warmblood , the Saxony-Anhaltin Warmblood , the Thuringian Warmblood and the Saxon Riding Horse .

Procedure and description

In 2003, the horse breeding associations Berlin-Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia decided to merge their horse stocks and create a common breeding book of origin . From the year of birth 2003 all foals from these breeding areas were registered as German sport horses. Since then “an arrow wound around a snake” has been used as a brand. This brand was already used as a brand for the Brandenburg warmblood and in a similar form with an "E" underneath for the noble warmblood, "T" for Trakehner descent and "S" for the heavy warmblood of the GDR.

The aim of the merger was, in particular, better, joint marketing of the horses. For this purpose, among other things, the showcase of the best was created, a joint licensing and auction for the German sport horse in the Graf-von-Lindenau-Halle at the Brandenburg State Stud . Also be in the state stud Prussendorf , the State Stud Moritzburg held as well as private stallion owners stallions for breeding of the German Sports horse.

In the meantime, the breeding associations of the German Sport Horse have partly merged organizationally, so two breeding associations remain: Brandenburg-Anhalt and Saxony-Thuringia.

Working group of the South German horse breeding associations

The Brandenburg-Anhalt Horse Breeding Association was accepted into the working group of the South German Horse Breeding Associations (AGS) in 2009 and thus also became a partner of the South German Horse Breeding Associations Marketing GmbH. This means that German sport horses should also be presented and traded at the southern German marketing events.

The AGS previously comprised the Baden-Württemberg Horse Breeding Association, the State Association of Bavarian Horse Breeders, the Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar Horse Breeding Association, the Saxony / Thuringia Horse Breeding Association, the Bavarian Breeding Association for Small Horses and Special Breeds, and the Hessen Pony Breeders Association.

In return for admission, the aim was to develop a joint breeding program. The AGS plans to breed the German sport horse uniformly. The cover sheet of the equine passport should show from which of the AGS federal states the horse comes. The delegates at the meetings of the AGS member associations in 2013 should vote on the common breed. At the beginning of September 2013, all AGS associations agreed to the agreement to jointly manage the original studbook of the German sport horse.
