Leopold Leonardus Petronella van Asten (born October 19, 1976 in Venray , Limburg ) is a Dutch show jumper .

Career

As the son of horse-loving parents, van Asten began to ride at the age of five. During his pony time he competed three times in the European Championships. After graduating from school, he finally devoted himself to riding and shortly thereafter gained his first international successes (including 3rd place at the Tokyo Grand Prix). In 1999 he rode his first Nations Cup . In 2003 he won the Dutch championship.

In 2004 he started at the Olympic Games in Athens and finished 30th in the singles, with the team he finished fourth.

In 2005 he won the Grand Prix at the CHI Donaueschingen with Think Twice II . In 2009 he won the Estoril Grand Prix , a stage on the Global Champions Tour .

Van Asten lives in Eindhoven and trains with Henk Nooren .
