Sergio Álvarez Moya (born January 7, 1985 ) is a Spanish show jumper .

Sergio Álvarez Moya contested his first international championship in 2001 when he won the gold medal in the individual ranking at the European Junior Championships in Gijón with Flash de la Ramée . Also in 2002, 2004 (both with Flash de la Ramée ) and 2005 (with Le Reve du Nabab ) he took part in the European championships for these age groups as a junior and a young rider.

His first championship participation in the rider age group was at the 2006 World Equestrian Games . Here Álvarez Moya reached eighth place in the team ranking with Le Reve du Nabab as part of the Spanish team. This was followed by participation in the European Championships in Mannheim in 2007 (with Le Reve du Nabab ) and in Windsor in 2009 (with Mme Pompadour ). Also in 2009, Sergio Álvarez Moya finished fifth at the Mediterranean Games with action breaker .

He achieved his greatest success up to then with Action-Breaker in July 2010, when he stayed clear over three laps and thus achieved third place in the Grand Prix of Aachen .

Álvarez Moya regularly competes in Nations Cup tournaments for Spanish Nations Cup teams. Among other things, he won the Nations Cup in Lisbon in 2007 with Le Reve du Nabab . He was also part of the Spanish Nations Cup team with Wisconsin at the Promotional League final in Barcelona in 2009, the victory of which led to Spain's promotion to the Meydan FEI Nations Cup .

At the 2013 World Cup finals , he came fourth with Carlo . In August 2013 it was ranked 14th in the FEI world rankings .

In the following years he competed at the World Equestrian Games in 2014 and at the European Championships in 2015 , in the latter he reached sixth place in the individual ranking. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro he took part in the Olympic Games for the first time.

Private

Sergio Álvarez Moya was married to Marta Ortega Pérez, the future heiress of Amancio Ortega , from mid-February 2012 . Both had been engaged since December 2011, before they had been in a relationship for three years.

As part of the marriage he moved from Grathem in the Netherlands to Spain. Their son was born in early March 2013. In 2014 the couple separated.
