Leudal is a Dutch municipality in the province of Limburg with a total of around 35,656 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019). It was created on January 1, 2007 from the merger of the municipalities of Haelen , Heythuysen , Hunsel and Roggel en Neer . The name of the new municipality is derived from the Leudal nature reserve , which lies between the villages in the valley of the Leu stream .

Geographical location

The municipality is located on the left bank of the Meuse opposite Roermond and the confluence of the Rur . The Maasplassen recreational area is partly located in the municipality .
