Heythuysen ( ) is a place and a former municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg . The place now has around 6,480 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018).
On January 1, 2007, the previously independent municipality merged with three others to form the municipality of Leudal . The municipality had an area of 58.6 km² (of which 0.48 km² is water). The districts of Baexem, Grathem and Kelpen-Oler belonged to it.
geography
Heythuysen lies on the left bank of the Meuse , not far from Roermond . The area has forest areas. The Leudal, after the newly formed municipality is named, is a nature reserve in the municipality. Otherwise, the landscape is characterized by many streams, beeks , which run parallel to the Maas and ultimately flow into it.
The place is connected by the N 279 to the N 273 accompanying the Meuse on the left and from there with the N 280 to Roermond and on to Germany.
history
The Franciscan Order of Penance and Christian Love was established in the village in 1835 .
economy
The place is characterized by agriculture, horticulture and small industry. The Verschueren Orgelbouw organ building workshop is a global company . A shopping center has recently opened in which Lidl and Aldi are also represented.
Culture
The small town has an active music association with the Harmonie L'Union with around 80 active amateur musicians.
