Company history

On May 5, 1891, Leon Verschueren (1866–1957) founded his company, which first made organ parts for other workshops. But they soon started building whole organs. From 1904 to 1955 , Max Bittner, who came from a south German family of organ builders , worked in the workshop and introduced late romantic principles. From 1920 to 1977 four sons (Leon, Emile, Ton and Frans) worked in the company. Leon II was in charge (1903 to 1983). During this time, the company's largest organ was built for the Sint-Catharinakerk (Eindhoven) according to the ideas of the organ movement . From 1937 to 1998, when George died, Emile and his son George ran a branch in Tongeren , Belgium, which became independent in 1951 and also delivered to Germany. In 1977, with Léon III, Frans' son, the third generation took over the company. In 2010 the company was converted into a foundation, the Stichting Verschueren Orgelbouw Heythuysen . Since then, Johan Zoutendijk, employed master organ builder, has been director of the company.
