Uli Edel

Ulrich Edel (born April 11, 1947 in Neuenburg am Rhein ) is a German television and film director . His best-known films include Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (1981), Last Exit Brooklyn (1989) and The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008).

Career

Uli Edel attended the Jesuit boarding school at St. Blasien from 1957 to 1966 . After studying theater studies , Edel was accepted at the University of Television and Film in Munich . There he met Bernd Eichinger . They worked together on their exercise films and shared a fascination with both Nouvelle Vague and neorealism and mainstream American movies . At the same time he took acting lessons and became interested in the theories of Stanislavski and Strasberg . After graduation, he worked withDouglas Sirk and has directed two television productions .

In 1980 Edel worked with Bernd Eichinger ( production ) and Herman Weigel ( screenplay ) on the true story of drug addict Christiane F. The film, titled Christiane F. - We Children from Bahnhof Zoo , was released the following year and was both national and international a great international success. From June 13 to September 29, 2012, he shot the lavish three-part Das Adlon on 76 days for a total of € 10 million on behalf of ZDF . A family saga with Heino Ferch and Marie Bäumer in the leading roles. The film aired on January 6, 7 and 9, 2013.

Awards

In 1990, Edel was awarded the Bavarian and German Film Awards in the Best Director category for his film Last Exit Brooklyn . In 2009 he received another nomination in this category for his work on Der Baader Meinhof Complex .
