Herman Weigel

Herman Weigel (born March 22, 1950 in Moers ) is a German film producer and screenwriter .

His long-term collaboration with the later producer Bernd Eichinger and the director Uli Edel began during his studies at the University of Television and Film Munich ; for the latter, he wrote the scripts for the short films The Little Soldier and Tommie Returns , for which Eichinger was the production manager.

He made his debut as a producer, writer and director in 1976 with the TV documentary series Stars That Passed By . In the same year he made his debut as a screenwriter for a movie with the Ludwig-Anzengruber filming Sternsteinhof (director: Hans W. Geißendörfer ). In the same year he continued his collaboration with director Uli Edel with the episode Der Posthalter within the TV film The Tales of Bjelkins after Pushkin . In 1978, Edel also directed the two-part television series Das Ding .

In 1979 Bernd Eichinger brought him to Neue Constantin Film, of which Weigel later became managing director and partner.

Weigel achieved his first major international success as a screenwriter in 1981 with Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo . Here, too, Uli Edel directed and Bernd Eichinger was the producer.

In 1984 he wrote the screenplay for the Bernd Eichinger production The Neverending Story (director: Wolfgang Petersen ).

As a co-producer or producer he worked, among other things, on Der Name der Rose (1986), the two Uli Edel films Last Exit Brooklyn (1989) and Body of Evidence (1993), the animated films Werner - Beinhart! (1990), Werner - You throw up later! (2003) and Werner Eiskalt (2011, also screenplay) and with Fatih Akins Out of Nowhere (2017), which was shown in the competition at the Cannes International Film Festival and won the Golden Globe 2018 for best non-English language film.

Herman Weigel worked with the actor and comedian Tom Gerhardt as a producer on the films Voll normaaal (1994), Ballermann 6 (1997) and Siegfried (2005, here also as a screenwriter). Also with Tom Gerhardt he is the initiator and one of the authors of the TV comedy series Hausmeister Krause - Order must be , which has been broadcast regularly since 1999 , for which he also drew as executive producer together with Bernd Eichinger.
