Michel Robert (born December 24, 1948 in Corbelin ) is a French show jumper .

Career

Michel Robert started riding at the age of 4, back then on a sheep. At the age of 5 he got the opportunity to ride his father's horses, a country doctor. In his youth, Robert rode first on a regional, then also national level in versatility, dressage and show jumping. At the age of 18, after completing his training, he went to the stables of various international riders of that time to learn here. During this phase he stayed for a few years in Béligneux in the Ain department - in the stable of the French eventing rider Jean Sarrazin. In 1971 he took part in the European Eventing Championships at Burghley House. The following year he took part in the Olympic Games in Munich , also in eventing.

As a result, Robert specialized in show jumping . As early as 1982 he took part in the world championships in Dublin as a show jumper with Ideal de la Haye . Here he won the title with the French team and the bronze medal in the individual. A large number of participations in European and World Championships followed to this day; so he won silver in the individual at the 1994 World Championships with Sissi de la Lande in The Hague. He had already achieved this a year earlier with the same horse at the European Championships in Gijón. Outstanding successes were also the individual and team victories at the Mediterranean Games in 1993 and 1997.

A few months after the sale of his top horse Kellemoi de Pepita , Robert took over the riding of several horses for "Haras de Hus", one of the largest French private studs , from April / May 2012. He thus succeeded Kevin Staut .

He and his wife Dominique (who also competes in international show jumping tournaments) run a facility in Fretignier near Lyon and are active as a rider, in training and in the horse trade . He has also published various works (books, films) on his way of working. Michel Robert has two children. In autumn 2013, Michel Robert first announced the end of his active sports career. Although he will continue to ride, he will concentrate more on courses and work as an author. In 2015 he turned back to active sport and started at CSI 2 * and 3 * tournaments.
