Markus Fuchs (born June 23, 1955 in Abtwil ) is a former show jumper. He was one of the most successful Swiss professional riders in international show jumping.

Live and act

Markus Fuchs won his first national title as Swiss champion in 1973, and in the same year he competed in his first international competition, the European Junior Championship - in St. Moritz, Switzerland . His most successful horse so far is Tinka's Boy (Markus Fuchs: "Tinka's Boy was the horse of my life"), who began a second career as a successful stallion at the end of 2004 - after winning the Grand Prix at the CHIO in Aachen . On June 6th, 2009 he finished his sporting career in front of a home crowd with a fourth place in the great jumping competition at the CSIO St. Gallen .

After the end of his equestrian career, he continues to work as a trainer, riding instructor, horse dealer and trainer for other international show jumpers ( Pius Schwizer , José Larocca ). Beginning with the European Show Jumping Championships in Windsor in late summer 2009, he was also to act as a TV co-commentator for Swiss television .

At the end of July 2009 he took over the position of team manager for the Italian show jumpers. After the World Equestrian Games in 2010 (where the Italian show jumping team only achieved 18th place), his area of responsibility was limited, and at the end of September 2011 he resigned. On the initiative of the head of the Swiss team, Urs Grünig, Fuchs became a sporting advisor for the Swiss show jumpers in 2012. In the following years he supported teams and riders from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Ukraine. Since the summer of 2017 he has withdrawn a little and only trains individual riders. Fuchs is still active in the horse trade and supports the CSIO Switzerland as head of sport.

The trained businessman is married to a dressage rider and has two sons.
