Walter Gabathuler (born June 20, 1954 , resident in Wartau ) is a Swiss show jumper .

Gabathuler competed in his first international jumping competition in 1972. Before that, he had spent a year as an intern and rider in the Hans Günter Winkler stable . Since 1984 he has been the owner of a training, riding and horse boarding business in Wallbach AG .

He competed in his first championship in the rider age group at the age of 20 at the World Championships in Hickstead. A year later he won the silver medal with Butterfly at the European Championships with the team and was ninth in the individual ranking. He achieved his best individual placement at a championship at the European Championships in 1983 when he finished fourth. At this championship he also won the team gold medal.

Walter Gabathuler once took part in the Olympic Games, at the 1988 Seoul Games . Outstanding in his career was also the victory at the Swiss championships five years in a row - from 1975 to 1979.

After Gabathuler lost touch with the world's elite in the 90s and continued to ride at a lower level, he was able to win a new patron in Thomas Straumann in 2016. He supports his comeback for the time being with two top horses and the opportunity to take part in the 5 * tournament in Basel with a wild card .

In April 2017 he competed in the Lummen Nations Cup with Fine Fleur du Marais . This was his first participation in the Nations Cup since 2005. So far, Walter Gabathuler has contested over 70 Nations Cups for Switzerland.
