Life

Golborne attended the Instituto Nacional de Santiago secondary school. He then graduated as an industrial engineer from the Universidad Católica de Chile . He then studied business administration at Northwestern University and Stanford University in the United States. Golborne as crisis manager of the San José mine disaster in August 2010

From March 11, 2010, Golborne was Mining Minister in the cabinet of Sebastián Piñeras . Before he was nominated, he had barely appeared politically and was only known to insiders. Golborne gained worldwide fame through the mining disaster in San José , in which he distinguished himself as a crisis manager. When the disaster struck, Golborne had only been in office for four months and had little knowledge of mining. In organizing the rescue, however, his past as a manager helped him, which made up for his lack of knowledge. The successful rescue of the 33 buried miners and the fact that he had spent almost the entire period in the rescue camp set up next to the mine made him the most popular politician in Chile. In a survey in January 2011, it received an approval rating of 81 percent. There has even been speculation that Golborne would run as a candidate in the next presidential election.

During a cabinet reshuffle in January 2011, President Piñera dismissed his energy minister Ricardo Raineri, among others . Instead of appointing a new energy minister, he slammed the energy department at Golbornes Ministry. In another cabinet reshuffle in July 2011, Golborne became Minister for Public Works. In return, his predecessor Hernán de Solminihac took over the ministry of mining, and Rodrigo Álvarez Zenteno was now responsible for the energy department.

Golborne, who does not belong to any political party, is married with six children.
