Daniel "Dan" Neilson (born March 1, 1990 in Cleveland , England ) is a British show jumper .

Career

Neilson, who started riding at the age of six, is widely recognized as one of Britain's finest young riders. Neilson is also otherwise very athletic, used to play soccer in the county level, holds a high jump record in his community, was also successful as an amateur boxer in the county level and played tennis at a high level, but ultimately his heart beat for equestrian sport. He rode for the UK for the first time when he was 12. In 2006 he won both individual and team gold at the European Pony Rider Championships with Micklos Madnes . In 2007 he won the junior silver medal in Auvers, France . In 2008 he became the leading show jumper at the Villeneuve Loubet Tour in southern France, and he also won team gold among the juniors in Prague . In 2009 he qualified six young horses for the Horse Of The Year Show in London , won the 4 * show jumping in Porto , his first test at an international senior level, and won team bronze at the Youth Olympics in Australia . In 2010 he won the Grand Prix of North Rhine-Westphalia in Dortmund on Milena in front of the then world number one Pius Schwizer . He also achieved success in 2010 in Canteleu, San Giovanni, Lisbon, Vimiero, Portimao, Villeneuve Loubet, Nantes and Zwolle. In 2011 he finished 4th with Milena at the Braunschweig Grand Prix . At the 2011 European Championships in Comporta , he won the bronze medal of the Young Riders in a team with George Whitaker, Jason Smith and Lucy Guild.

In 2013 he was part of the British team at the Nations Cup in Lummen and Rotterdam . At home World Cup competitions in London he was third with Varo M as the best British rider.

Neilson has lived in Brentwood since he was 16 and trained at Jason and Katrina Moore's stables.

Daniel Neilson grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne in north east England. He has two sisters and two brothers. His mother Christine was an avid equestrian, his father John a semi-professional Scottish footballer.
