The CSIO Rome is an international 5 * jumping tournament that takes place annually in May in Rome . The tournament will be held in Piazza di Siena, an oval square surrounded by pine and cypress trees in Villa Borghese Park , in the heart of the Italian capital. The tournament itself is often referred to as Piazza di Siena after its venue .

history

The first major modern horse show in Rome took place in 1911 with the Concorso ippico internazionale in Tor di Quinto , and the host team won the first Italian Nations Cup for show jumping .

The first two jumping tournaments on the Piazza di Siena took place in 1922 and 1923. It has been held as an international tournament since 1926. In 1926 and 1927, however, they switched to the Villa Glori Park, two kilometers to the north, and in 1928 the tournament was also held in Parioli Municipality . Since 1929 it has been held continuously on the Piazza di Siena - interrupted only by a few tournaments, mostly canceled due to the war (1941 to 1946). In 1960 Turin hosted the Italian Nations Cup, the Piazza di Siena instead served as the venue for most of the Olympic equestrian competitions . Due to the World Equestrian Games , there was no Nations Cup tournament in Rome in 1998. In 2003, on the other hand, two tournaments were held: the normal CSIO in May and the final tournament of the Samsung Super League in October.

The Nations Cup of Rome is one of the most traditional and most important Nations Cups in show jumping. Until 2017 he was part of the FEI Nations Cup series . For the 2018 season, the organizers dropped out of the series, like the Nations Cup tournaments in Aachen and Calgary before . As with these, Rolex is now represented at the tournament as a major sponsor.
