Harvey Smith (1974)

Harvey Smith (born December 29, 1938 in Yorkshire ) is a former British show jumper .

biography

Harvey represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games , he did not get into the medal ranks in either 1968 ( Mexico ) or 1972 ( Munich ). He rode in five European championships and brought home a medal each time.

In 1971, he showed the judges the insulting V-gesture (back of the hand outward) to the judges after winning the Hickstead Derby on Mattie Brown . This resulted in his being disqualified. He appealed against it and won. He relied on a Victory -Siegesgruß have shown.

In 1990 he retired from the competition and founded a racing team on his farm in Yorkshire with his wife and trainer Sue Smith, a former show jumper.

In April 2010 Harvey received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to British show jumping.

family

Harvey Smith is the father of show jumper Robert Smith . His younger son Steven Smith was also a show jumper, winning the silver medal with the British team at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles .
