history

The name of the quarter is derived from a medieval watchtower on the fifth milestone of Via Flaminia. His ruins are now on Viale di Tor di Quinto, at the corner of Via Caprilli.

On March 1, 1954, the suburb (Suburbio I.) Parioli was divided into the quarter Q.XVII Tor di Quinto and the new suburb Suburbio I. Tor di Quinto . Until then, the area was almost uninhabited and was mainly used as pastureland. After that, the quarter experienced dynamic development. Above all on the so-called Collina Fleming, an upscale residential area with multi-family houses and apartment houses emerged from the late 1950s.

In addition, some military facilities have been settled, which take up a large part of the area. In the extreme southwest of the district, on Ponte Milvio , there is now a popular nightlife district.
