Ripa (Italian outdated for bank ) is the XII. Rione (district) of Rome . It includes the Aventine , the valley basin of the Circus Maximus and the left bank of the Tiber between Ponte Sublicio and Monte Savello . The Tiber Island also belongs to this rione .

history

The name of the district is derived from the ancient Tiber port Ripa Grande . It emerged from the medieval Ripe et Marmorate district and received its current borders in 1921 when the Rione Testaccio and San Saba were spun off.
