Immediately northwest of Cecchignola is the Laurentina subway station , which is the terminus of line B. In the northwest is the modern district of Europe , a few kilometers southeast of Cecchignola is the Rome-Ciampino Airport .

history

The origins of today's district go back to a workers' settlement that was built in the late 1930s. The Villaggio Operaio accommodated 1,500 construction workers who were needed for the planned 1942 World Exhibition . To the southeast of it a first barracks was built , from which today's Città militare della Cecchignola emerged , in which the NATO Defense College is also located.

After the Second World War, Italian displaced persons and refugees from Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia were housed in the workers' settlement , for whom new housing estates were later built, from which today's district of Giuliano-Dalmata emerged . This new district, in which the present-day military town is also located, was spun off from Cecchignola. Therefore, the term “military town of Cecchignola” is somewhat misleading.
