Appio Claudio
Appio Claudio is a district in the southeast of the Italian capital Rome . Like the Appian Way , it is named after the Roman statesman Appius Claudius Caecus . The quarter is called Q.XXV and is part of Municipio VII . It has 28,324 inhabitants and has an area of 5.5382 km².
It forms the zone urbanistiche designated with the code 10.b with 29,872 inhabitants in 2010 and an area of 3.57 km².
history
In the administration, the quarter was run as Suburbio V. In the 1930s, urbanization began around the Cinecittà, which was founded in 1936 . This was done according to plans by Gaetano Rapisardi , who ensured an architectural style shaped by fascism. Urbanization intensified as a result of the Second World War .
The film Mamma Roma by Pier Paolo Pasolini is about the expansion of the neighborhood in the late 1950s.
In 1961, Suburbio V became XXIV Don Bosco and XXV Appio Claudio.
