Marcigliana refers to the third zone , abbreviated as Z.III, the Italian capital Rome . In contrast to the Rioni, Quartieri and Suburbi, these are the more rural areas of Rome. It belongs to Municipio III and has 6,711 inhabitants (2016). It is located in the north of the city outside the Roman A90 ring road and has an area of ​​49.3165 km². The name is derived from the Fundus Marcellianus, named after the Roman Marcelli family who belonged to the Claudians . It borders the municipalities of Riano and Monterotondo . The villages of Settebagni and Vallericca are in this zone .

history

Marcigliana was founded on September 13, 1961 by decision of the Commissario Straordinario. At that time, the Ager Romanus was divided into 59 zones, which were assigned a Roman number and a Z was introduced. Six of them were completely outsourced to the newly founded municipality of Fiumicino and three others partially.
