history

In the 1st century BC the land was owned by the Roman consul Aulo Terenzio Varrone Murena . Hence the name of the zona is derived. In the area are the ruins of three Roman villas. One of them is attributed to Lucius Licinius Murena .

Casal Morena was founded on September 13, 1961 by decision of the Commissario Straordinario. At that time the Ager Romanus was divided into 59 zones to which a Roman number was assigned and a Z was introduced. Six of them were completely outsourced to the newly founded municipality of Fiumicino and three others partially.
