Primavalle is a district in the northwest of the Italian capital Rome . The name is derived from the Via de monti Primavalle . It is referred to as Q.XXVII and is part of Municipio XIII and XIV . Primavalle has 75,468 inhabitants and an area of ​​4.9666 km². Primavalle is located within the great ring road (GRA).

The «zone urbanistiche» of the same name is designated with the code 19.b , has 58,230 inhabitants and an area of ​​3.90 km².

history

Tenuta di Primavalle was a large agricultural area owned by the Chapter of St. Peter . At the end of the 1920s, Primavalle was sold to private individuals who built villas in the countryside or modest rural buildings here. In 1936, as part of the urban development policy under Mussolini , the expansion of a new settlement with a large number of social housing was officially started. In the 1950s Primavalle was considered one of the city's poor areas. On September 13, 1961, the towns of Primavalle and Vecchia were removed from the suburbio SX Trionfale and the new district Primavalle was founded from them .

  • Primavalle is the setting in Roberto Rosselini's film Europa 51 , with Ingrid Bergman in the lead role, which was awarded the Golden Lion in Venice in 1952 .
  • In 2002 the documentary filmmaker Riccardo Zoffoli made a film about Primavalle entitled "La Montagna del Sapone" in which he a. a. also interviewed residents who had acted as extras on Rosselini's film.
  • In 1976 Ettore Scola's film The Dirty, the Ugly and the Common ( Brutti, sporchi e cattivi ), set in the slums of Primavalles, premiered in Cannes , and Scola was named best director for this film.
