The 9th World Cup in Athletics took place on September 21 and 22, 2002 at the Estadio de Madrid in Madrid ( Spain ).
402 athletes from 65 nations took part. The men's team from Africa and the women's team from Russia won .

The UK men's team was disqualified after Dwain Chambers' results at the European Athletics Cup , which helped the British enter the World Cup, were subsequently canceled for his doping rule violations .
