Riders Tour 2014

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DKB-Riders Tour 2014 was the fourteenth season of the Riders Tour , an international show jumping tournament series .

In 2014 the Riders Tour comprised six special stages at CSI 3 * and 4 * tournaments in Germany. The Riders Tour was organized by a company of the same name, whose managing director is Paul Schockemöhle .

The title sponsor of the series was Deutsche Kreditbank , and Solartechnik Stiens GmbH was also the main sponsor.

Course of the tournament series

The tournaments of the Riders Tour 2014 took place between April 23rd and November 9th. With the cancellation of the German Classics in Hanover, the series only comprised six stations - one less than in the previous year.

The special tests were usually the grand prizes of the tournaments. In the German show jumping and dressage derby , the jumping derby was the Riders Tour rating test.

With the exception of the German Jumping Derby, the evaluation tests were each advertised as a jumping competition with two different rounds . The penalty points were not taken over from the first round, so the announcement (except for the starting order in the second round) was largely similar to a jumping competition with a winning round.

The best quarters of the starters of the first round qualified for the second round. If more than the best quarter were fault-free in the first round, they were all eligible to start in the second round of the test.

The season finale was again the final in Munich. This was a normal special stage. However, in order to be able to enter the overall ranking at the end of the season, the riders had to take part in the final. If this was not the case, they were not taken into account in the final overall ranking.

The points were awarded as follows:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 11 12 13 14th 15th

media

All Riders Tour tournaments were broadcast via an internet livestream.

Once again, not all tests of the Riders Tour 2014 were televised. The broadcasts were carried out to varying degrees by public television broadcasters , usually on the third party programs . The German Jumping Derby, which stands out from the equestrian events in Germany due to its peculiarity and tradition, was first broadcast on NDR television , then continued on the first German television .

The exams

1st examination: Hagen aTW

The start of the Riders Tour 2014 was the CSI 4 * tournament " Horses & Dreams " in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest . This took place from April 23 to April 27, 2014. One week after the World Cup finals , it was one of the first international "green season" tournaments for the show jumpers in 2014 in Germany.

In the Grand Prix, which counted as a special test for the Riders Tour, 47 riders started with their horses. In the first round ten starter pairs remained without mistakes, four riders with one or four penalty points also qualified for the second round. Seven horse-rider pairs made no mistakes in the second round. Holger Wulschner benefited from the regulations, who received four penalty points with Fine Lady in the first lap, but remained error-free with by far the fastest time in the second lap. For Wulschner this was the victory and at the same time the last tournament appearance with the mare, who subsequently moved to Eric Lamaze's stable . The examination was endowed with € 75,000.

2nd exam: Hamburg

The winners of the German Jumping Derby 2014: Nisse Lüneburg and Calle Cool

The most extraordinary stage of the Riders Tour season, the German Jumping Derby as part of the German Jumping and Dressage Derby , again formed the second Riders Tour stage. This tournament, which takes place in Hamburg , was held from May 28 to June 1, 2014.

The jumping derby course, unchanged in its basic structure since 1920, was implemented again by the German course designer Frank Rothenberger. The test was a jumping competition with one jump-off. In 2014 the derby lived up to its reputation as the “toughest show jumping course in the world” - eleven of the 31 starters were eliminated, and two others gave up the ride prematurely. The participants who reached the finish in the normal round differed significantly in terms of results: 13 horse-rider pairs had 12 to 24 penalty points, the remaining five starter pairs made it to the finish without errors or with four penalty points. Among the riders with four penalty points was Gerald Nothdurft, for whom this first appearance in the German Jumping Derby with Amazing was highly successful (fourth place). Last year's runner-up, Carsten-Otto Nagel and Lex Lugar , came third in 2014.

Two derby-experienced riders had no mistakes in the normal round and moved into the jump-off: First, the derby winning pair from 2012, Nisse Lüneburg and Calle Cool , had to take part in the shortened course. Both managed another flawless lap. André Plath and the 10-year-old gelding Cosmic Blue (Derby tenth of the previous year) came second in the jump-off course, but had to accept four penalty points because the gate of the nine obstacle fell. For Nisse Lüneburg his second derby victory was certain.

3rd exam: Wiesbaden

Traditionally on the Whitsun weekend, 2014 from June 6th to June 9th, the International Whitsun Tournament Wiesbaden takes place in Wiesbaden . After the rainy tournament weekend in 2013 with the Global Champions Tour stage, the Whitsun tournament largely returned to the old concept of the Grand Prix - the Riders Tour specialty test - on Whit Monday.

The CSI 5 * tournaments taking place at the same time in Saint-Tropez and Shanghai weaken the starting field of the jumping competitions in Wiesbaden, which are only held as CSI 3 *. The Grand Prix took place under difficult conditions, in addition to the usual changes of light and shadow, temperatures of over 30 ° C were added. In the first lap, five riders managed to remain faultless, so that seven other horse-rider pairs could qualify for the second lap with one or four penalty points.

The result of zero penalty points, with which all twelve participants now started again, could only be kept by very few. After three rides with mistakes, Toni Haßmann and Classic Man V were the first to succeed with a faultless ride. Not quite a second slower than Haßmann, but Gerrit Schepers and his horse made no mistakes either. After him, only two starter pairs also achieved a clear round, Catherine Pasmore with Bonanza van Paemel in a slow time, Angelina Herröder as the last rider also slower than Gerrit Schepers. The victory in the Wiesbaden Grand Prix, which was endowed with 85,000 euros, went to Toni Haßmann for the first time.

4th exam: Münster

After the summer break of the Riders Tour, the fourth stage of the Riders Tour took place. This was played at the tournament of the winners in Münster , the tournament date in 2014 was the period from August 7th to August 10th.

The Grand Prix on Sunday is the Riders Tour special stage. In the first round, 13 horse-rider pairs remained without errors, this was one pair more than the planned quarter of the starters. No pairs with penalty points qualified for the second round. Marcus Ehning and the former vice federal champion Comme il faut came just past the allowed time and thus in the end on 14th place .

In the second lap Steve Guerdat was the first rider to start with Nino des Buissonnets , his 2012 Olympic champion horse. For this couple, the test was intended as the last test of form before the World Equestrian Games , so Guerdat rode the circuit quickly but without excessive risk. In the course of the second lap, Guerdat's time proved to be unbeatable, none of the following twelve starter pairs were faster. In second place came Holger Wulschner, who thus retained his lead in the Riders Tour overall ranking.

5th exam: Paderborn

The fifth evaluation test of the DKB-Riders Tour 2014 was held on the Schützenplatz in Paderborn . This is part of a CSI 3 * tournament that took place from September 11th to September 14th, 2014. The Grand Prix of Paderborn, the special stage of the Riders Tour, took place on the last day of the tournament from 1:45 p.m.

In the first round of the test, five starter pairs failed to make mistakes, one horse-rider pair crossed the finish line with only one time penalty. Several riders with four penalty points benefited from the special Riders Tour regulations in Paderborn, who belonged to the best quarter of the first round and made it into the second round: Wout-Jan van der Schans had crossed the finish line with Capetown with four penalty points, but stayed in the second lap without mistakes and with less than 47 seconds he was so fast that he won the Grand Prix. Things went just as well for his compatriot Albert Zoer, who finished third in the test with Abra Kadabra with the same starting position. With a result of eight penalty points in the first round, Holger Wulschner could not qualify for the second round and thus missed the chance to secure victory in the overall Riders Tour ranking in Paderborn.

6. Exam: Munich

The final stage of the DKB-Riders Tour 2014 was carried out as part of the Munich Indoors , a tournament that takes place in the Munich Olympic Hall . This CSI 4 * tournament was held from November 6th to November 9th, 2014. On November 9th, the winner of the final test, the Grand Prix, was determined.

In the first round of the Grand Prix, six horse-rider pairs remained without mistakes. A pair of starters with one time penalty and the five fastest pairs with four penalty points qualify for the second round alongside the clean starters. Toni Haßmann, who was in second place in the Riders Tour overall ranking ahead of Munich, had two obstacle drops in the first lap with Classic Man V and thus received no further points for the overall ranking. Holger Wulschner, on the other hand, managed a flawless lap with Cavity , with which he already had the overall victory of the Riders Tour.

In this second lap , Denis Lynch was the first rider to start with the ten-year-old gelding Quote Zavaan , with a fast time of 41.99 seconds. With this result he stayed in the lead for a long time and ended up in second place. Carsten-Otto Nagel and Felix Haßmann each had a drop in the second lap, but with this result they were able to move up to second and third place in the Riders Tour overall standings. As in the previous year, victory in the Grand Prix went to John Whitaker and his 12-year-old stallion Argento , who made up over 30 places in the overall Riders Tour ranking.
