Dorothee Schneider (born February 17, 1969 in Mainz ) is a German dressage rider . Schneider lives in Framersheim and competes in sport for the Frankfurt Tournament Stables Schwarz-Gelb eV association. She is a riding master .

Career

Dorothee Schneider was surrounded by horses even in her childhood. Her father Hans-Eberhard Schneider himself was a dressage rider, rode difficult dressage tests up to intermediaire level and judged dressage tests up to Grand Prix level, he was also active as a horse breeder . Until the beginning of the 1980s, the family was tenants of the Mechtildshausen domain near Wiesbaden, where they ran an agricultural business. Here Schneider learned to ride from her father, but according to his own statement he had to fight for his father's riding lessons and tried to teach himself a lot.

After graduating from school, she wanted to study veterinary medicine. In the year of their graduation, however, the family had to leave the domain because it was to be used as a youth project. So she moved to Framersheim, where she bought an equestrian facility and started her own business. Therefore Dorothee Schneider refrained from her plan and continued to act as a helping hand in her parents' business. At the same time she started an apprenticeship as a bank clerk .

After completing this apprenticeship, an apprenticeship as a horse manager followed with a focus on breeding and keeping on the parental farm. This was followed by the master's examination for horse management, as a side entry she also took the rider examination and subsequently also the master’s examination for horse management in the field of riding. Since the family business also keeps stallions, she also trained to be an insemination warden.

In 2000, she took over the family business with several employees.

Athletic career

Schneider got her start in the sport with the Trakehner gray gelding Protegé , who was seriously injured and was nursed back to health by Dorothee Schneider's father. With this she took her first riding test at the age of eight, in the following years both worked their way up to dressage tests of the M level. With the self-drawn horse catapult , she became Hessian junior champion and was accepted into the national squad. Schneider rode her first Grand Prix de Dressage with the stallion Van Deyk . She previously took part in the Bundeschampionat with him . In 1994 she was awarded the Golden Riding Badge .

With Kaiserkult , a licensed son of Van Deyk , Dorothee Schneider won the Bundeschampionat for six-year-old dressage horses in 2004. In 2006 they both reached second place in the final of the Nuremberg Burg Cup . Many successes in the advanced class followed.

At the end of 2011 Schneider got the opportunity to ride the mare Diva Royal until next year through the mediation of the then national trainer Holger Schmezer . This belongs to the mother of Stella Charlott Roth, a student of Dorothee Schneider. In 2010, Roth was part of the German European Championship team of young riders with the only eight-year-old Diva Royal . In December 2011, Schneider started for the first time in a World Cup test at the Festhalle riding tournament in Frankfurt (Main) . Here she reached third place with Diva Royal .

This was followed by further good placements at high-class tournaments over the course of the year. At the German Championships , Schneider and Diva Royal achieved fifth place in the Grand Prix Spécial and fourth place in the freestyle. As a result, she was accepted into the A-squad of dressage riders and was given the opportunity to take part in the CDI 4 * tour at the CHIO Aachen . Due to illness of her club colleague Matthias Alexander Rath , she was nominated for the German team in the CDIO 5 * tour of the CHIO Aachen. Due to a very good performance (for example a third place in the Grand Prix Freestyle) she was nominated as a team rider for the Olympic Games . With Kristina Sprehe and Helen Langehanenberg , she won the silver medal in the dressage team competition.

After the Olympic Games, Stella Charlott Roth took over Diva Royal again , Schneider rode the mare Forward Looking successfully at Grand Prix level in addition to young dressage horses . With Forward Looking she came in sixth (Grand Prix Freestyle) and seventh (Grand Prix Spécial) at the German championships in 2014.

From the summer of 2013 Dorothee Schneider took over the riding and training of several horses owned by the Edwin Kohl family (founder of Kohlpharma ), which were previously ridden by Patrik Kittel and then briefly by Ulla Salzgeber . At the beginning of 2014 she was able to record a major international success for the first time with one of these horses, with Silvano : At the CDI 4 * tournament in Graz she won both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle. At the German championships in June 2015 she came fifth in the Grand Prix Freestyle with the ten-year-old black gelding St. Emilion .

With the Hanoverian Showtime she won the Grand Prix Spécial at the Munich Indoors 2015 with a result of over 80 percent. At the German Championships in 2016 in Balve, Schneider became German champion in the Grand Prix Freestyle for the first time with Showtime , having won the silver medal in the Grand Prix Spécial a day earlier. At the CHIO Aachen, Dorothee Schneider and Showtime were nominated for the 2016 Olympic Games, and just in time for the Olympic Games, both of them moved up to third place in the world rankings. At the Olympic Games Schneider came third in Grand Prix and Grand Prix Spécial and thus contributed to the gold medal win of the German team. In the Grand Prix Freestyle, which counts for the individual classification, too many mistakes crept in, so that with Showtime she came in sixth place in the individual classification.

Schneider achieved something extraordinary with the stallion Sezuan that was made available to her , the dark bay was world champion for five-year-olds, six-year-olds and seven-year-olds at the world championships for young dressage horses from 2014 to 2016. At the German Championships 2017 she won with Sammy Davis jr. the bronze medal in the freestyle, in the Grand Prix Spécial it was fourth place.

5th place at the World Cup final 2018 : Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis jr.

On Whit Monday 2018, Schneider won the Grand Prix Special at the international horse show in Wiesbaden for the second time . There she rode the gelding Faustus , for whom this was his second Grand Prix Spécial victory at the third international tournament ever. At the German championships in Balve, where Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis jr. won two medals (bronze in the Grand Prix Spécial, silver in the Grand Prix Freestyle), Faustus was also accepted into the circle of German championship horses. Like Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Isabell Werth, Schneider was a member of the championship squad with three horses. In September 2018 she was with Sammy Davis Jr. Part of the victorious dressage team at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, America . In the individual ranking she reached 11th place (due to Hurricane Florence only Grand Prix Spécial).

A year later, Schneider won the Hanoverian Showtime FRH the German Cup in the Grand Prix Spécial . At the European Championships in Rotterdam in 2019 , after her personal best in the Grand Prix Spécial (85.456%), she secured silver, which also meant the first individual medal at a championship of her career. The next day, Schneider received more than 90 percent (90.561%) in the Grand Prix Freestyle for the first time with Showtime FRH , with which she again won silver and also advanced into a range of grades that only a few riders could achieve at Grand Prix level.

In June 2020 Schneider was 3rd with Showtime FRH , 21st with DSP Sammy Davis Jr. and 66th with DSP Pathétique in the world rankings of dressage riders.
