Gehnäll Persson (born August 21, 1910 in Steneby , Bengtsfors , Västra Götalands län ; † July 16, 1976 in Köping , Västmanland ) was a Swedish dressage rider and flag junior in the Swedish army .

Life

Gehnäll Persson was born in 1910 to Sven Persson and Bertha Andersson in Steneby , Bengtsfors .

In 1938 he married Ruth Jansson (* 1914), with whom he had two sons, Lars Ove (* 1943) and Anders (* 1951).

Persson made his Olympic debut at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London , where he was sixth in individual training and also won the gold medal with the Swedish team in team training by a large margin. However, Persson and the Swedish team were subsequently disqualified on April 27, 1949 by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) and with the consent of the International Olympic Committee . Persson had been promoted to ensign three weeks before the competition . Only two and a half weeks after the competition, the Swedish army demoted him back to sergeant . According to the regulations at the time, however, only officers and “gentlemen's riders” were allowed to participate, but not NCOs. Since Gehnäll was only promoted for the period around the games, this was considered a rule violation.

At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952 , he won the gold medal in team dressage on “Knaust” together with Gustaf Adolf Boltenstern junior and Henri Saint Cyr, ahead of Switzerland and Germany. Four years later Persson was able to repeat this success on “Knaust” at the riding competitions of the 1956 Summer Olympics in Stockholm together with Boltenstern and Saint Cyr and win gold in the team dressage in front of the teams from all of Germany and Switzerland.

Persson died in Köping , Västmanland, in 1976 at the age of 65 .
