Karin Schlueter

Karin Schlüter-Billings (born March 12, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a former dressage rider from the Federal Republic of Germany, who was among the world's best from 1970 to 1975.

Career

Karin Schlüter from the North German and Flottbeker Reiterverein (NFR) began riding in the 1950s. She celebrated her greatest successes on the chestnut gelding Liostro , with whom she won the German Dressage Derby in 1968 . In 1970 she won her first German championship title. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , she took seventh place in the individual competition and won the silver medal behind the Soviet team in the team competition, together with Josef Neckermann and Liselott Linsenhoff . In 1973, Schlüter won the German Dressage Derby and the German Championships for the second time. Together with Liselott Linsenhoff and Reiner Klimke , she won the team championship at the European Championships in Aachen . In 1974 Karin Schlueter defended her title in both the dressage derby and the German championships. At the World Championships in Copenhagen, Klimke, Linsenhoff and Schlüter won the team classification. In 1975 Karin Schlueter won her fourth German championship title with Liostro . At the European Championships in Kiev she received the bronze medal behind the Swiss Christine Stückelberger and Harry Boldt , her only international medal in an individual competition; together with Harry Boldt and Ilsebill Becher she defended the title in the team championship. In 1976, the now 15-year-old Liostro was no longer in top form. Karin Schlüter won the German Dressage Derby with Gassendi , but was only a substitute rider behind Harry Boldt, Reiner Klimke and Gabriela Grillo at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and was not used.

Karin Schlüter's horses from the Greif stable were trained by Walter Biedermann and Walter Günther , and Karin Schlüter's husband, Hans-Werner Schlüter, was the tenant of the stable. Karin Schlueter rode Kurprinz , Alpina , Mars , Ikarus , Liostro and Gassendi at tournaments .

After her riding career, she concentrated on painting. She married in the 2000s and took the name Schlueter-Billings. She lives alternately in her husband's home (in Florida) and in Hamburg.
