About this picture

Redefin is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is administered by the Office Hagenow-Land , based in the city of Hagenow .

geography

Redefin is located on the north-western edge of the Griesen area , on the west bank of the Sude , which here, coming from the north, continues west towards the Elbe .

Redefin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hagenow in the north, Kuhstorf in the northeast, Bresegard near Picher in the east, Groß Krams in the southeast, Belsch in the south, Lübenheen in the southwest and Warlitz in the northwest.

history

Redefin emerged from a Slavic Rundling settlement. The first documentary mention dates back to 1306 and was found in an assistance contract between the Margrave Hermann von Brandenburg, the Count Nikolaus and Gunzelin von Schwerin against the knight Rybe, who lived in a castle built around 1300 in the swamps of the southern lowlands near Redefin . Rybe was a robber baron feared by the Hanseatic merchants , who plundered the transport of goods on the trade route between Hamburg and Berlin and thus came to prosperity and wealth. The castle was destroyed in 1311 and Rybe left the country. The Schwerin part of the knight's seat went to Ulrich von Pentz as a fief and with Dietrich von Wenkstern he rebuilt the castle. Ulrich von Pentz was also a robber baron and his new castle was broken in 1354 by the citizens of Lübeck. He gave up stealing and in 1357 allied himself with Duke Albrecht of Mecklenburg. For this he was enfeoffed with the Redefin Castle in 1363. All the villages in Jabel were part of the castle fief. In addition, the castle, town and country of Boizenburg were pledged to him. He also became captain of the castle Dömitz, which was then in Saxony . Ulrich von Pentz's descendants stayed at the castle until 1610. In the Thirty Years' War the castle and chapel were finally destroyed and demolished. Several houses in Boizenburg were built from their stones.

In 1709 the Redefin estate was exchanged for the Weselin estate, today's Kaarz, to the ducal chamber.

1710, the first ducal was Stuterei adapted developed from the Mecklenburg Landgestüt. Between 1812 and 1820 Vollrath Joachim Helmuth von Bülow had the state stud built around a parade ground according to plans by the Mecklenburg state master builder Carl Heinrich Wünsch in the classicism style. At that time there were twelve farmers, four Büdner and a tenant fisherman living in the village . With the construction of the Poststrasse from Hamburg to Berlin, today's B 5 , Redefin received a main post office with a horse transformer station. In 1830 and 1845 a court school and a village school were built. When there were 10 farmers, 17 Büdner, 21 cottagers , two jugs , a road house, a station hunter's house, two schools, a central school, a forge and a windmill and a water mill in Redefin in 1880 , the local volunteer fire brigade was founded. In 1921 the schools merged and in 1923 electricity came to the village. The population increased from 630 in 1935, over 750 (1941) to 1138 including all resettlers in 1946 after the end of the Second World War . During the GDR era, Redefin developed into the center of the surrounding villages with the appropriate infrastructure. The farmers were forcibly collectivized. After 1990 the infrastructure, the village church and the stud farm were modernized and renovated.

On May 1, 1990, the former Redefin district of Groß Krams left the community and became independent.

coat of arms

Redefin coat of arms
Blazon : "In red over a golden shield foot, a jumping golden horse with an erect tail."

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Karl-Heinz Steinbruch . It was approved on November 24, 1998 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 174 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the horse symbolizes the state stud, which is well known beyond the national borders. The base of the shield is intended to ensure that it cannot be confused with other coats of arms, which also contain horse motifs. The tinging in red and gold, the colors of the Counts of Schwerin, is a reminder of the temporary local lords.
