The Schmaar (also called Kleine Sude in a section ) is a right tributary of the Sude in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in southwest Mecklenburg .
course
The river has its origin at the confluence of two ditches northeast of the district of Helm, which belongs to the city of Wittenburg, in a non-military corridor between two parts of the Hagenow training area . The two trenches begin on the eastern slope of the Heidberg at an altitude of about 53 m above sea level. NHN . The Schmaar runs, including the Helmer Mühlengraben and other ditches, initially in an easterly direction to the village of Woldmühle. There the water was once dammed in a mill pond and a water mill operated. The building that still exists is now used as an apartment. From here on the water flows southeast to Hagenow. The city center is crossed from east to west and the federal highway 321 crosses . In the city, the river is dammed up as an elongated mill pond. The mill building still exists, but only a sign reminds of its former use.
To the west of the built-up urban area of Hagenow, the river, now known as the Kleine Sude , turns south. Several trenches also open there, including the Menckengraben. In this section, the Berlin-Hamburger Bahn and Bundesstraße 5 are crossed. After the confluence with the Rotenfurt, the Kleine Sude flows into the Sude west of Redefin while maintaining the river code .
Even before the union with the Red ford the Schmaar branches with different waters code 5936362, 593636 later, however, to the west, and ends after 5.2 kilometers north of the straightened path Lübtheener hamlet Bandekow in the brews.
history
With the construction of a new sewage treatment plant in Hagenow in 1995, the water pollution could be significantly reduced. The water quality class improved from III-IV (very heavily polluted) to II (moderately polluted).
The course of rivers in particular is an indication of the strong regulation of the water in the past. According to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Water Framework Directive, the course of the river is temporarily changed / designated as artificial. In the Hagenow area, the Schmaar was renatured to a length of 1.7 kilometers, including the relocation into a meandering river bed in 2007, the desludging of the mill pond in 2005 and the construction of a sediment trap in 2006. Finally, in October 2009, a fish ladder was built at the outlet of the mill pond began.
fauna
Roach , perch and pike are the main species in the Schmaar .
