The municipality of Balow belongs to the Grabow district in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).
geography
Balow borders the communities Möllenbeck , Zierzow , Prislich , Karstädt and Dambeck and is located in the sparsely populated southern area of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district on the state border with Brandenburg . The Tarnitz runs west of the village, and the Löcknitz runs east . The federal motorway 24 can be reached in 13 kilometers via the Parchim junction . The next train station on the Hamburg – Berlin route is in Grabow .
history
The place, originally a Slavic Sackplatzdorf , was first mentioned in 1341 in a letter about the purchase of grain. Balow had been an estate village since the 13th century. In 1736 a fire destroyed the village church, which was rebuilt in 1774. Even after the Second World War , the community was dominated by agriculture, the collectivization since the 1950s led to the formation of large farms with a total usable area of 1006 hectares.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE BALOW".
