history

Dobin am See has existed as a municipality since June 13, 2004. It was created through a merger of the previous municipalities of Retgendorf and Rubow.

The name Dobin goes back to a castle that the Abodrite prince Niklot had built around 1147 between the Schwerin lake and the Döpe near Neu Flessenow. As part of a punitive expedition by Henry the Lion in 1160, the retreating Niklot destroyed the castle to prevent it from being encircled. Most of the villages in the community were first mentioned in a document in the 13th century.

The area belonged to the Duchy or Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin until the First World War, then to the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1919–1933), after 1945 to the State of Mecklenburg and from 1952 to 1990 to the Schwerin district of the GDR .

From the 15th to the 18th century, the von Sperling family owned the towns of Alt Schlagsdorf, Buchholz, Flessenow, Neu Schlagsdorf, Retgendorf and Rubow. Later the von Bülow family followed as landowners, and then the von Neumann, von Benckendorff and von Böhl families .

Buchholz: The late Gothic village church received the neo-Gothic west tower in 1869.

Flessenow was first mentioned as V Lassenow in 1241. The name of the place probably comes from the old Slavic word vlaga and means humid place .

Liessow , manor of the Neumann family, then the von Oertzen family until 1945 . In February 2015, the mansion built in the classical style was demolished.

Retgendorf was first mentioned in 1241. The late Gothic village church dates from the 14th century. The lords were u. a. the families von Sperling (from 13th century), von Plessen (from around 1622), Bernhard Joachim von Bülow (from 1792) and then presumably the Count von Schack . The manor house in the village center has not existed for a long time.

Rubow: The late classicist , unrenovated Rubow manor dates from the 19th century. The von Sperling families lived here from the 15th to the 17th centuries, followed by the von Bülow , von Neumann and von Benckendorff families and, from the end of the 19th century until 1945, the von Böhl families .

The politically persecuted poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben lived in Holdorf and Buchholz between 1844 and 1849 .
