Bernhard Joachim von Bülow

Bernhard Joachim von Bülow (born July 8, 1747 in Camin ; † August 30, 1826 in Schwerin ) was a Mecklenburg-Schwerin diplomat and court marshal .

Life

He attended the Knight's Academy in Braunschweig and in 1764 entered the service of Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg as a court squire . In 1775, as chamberlain , he accompanied the Hereditary Prince Friedrich Franz to his wedding with Luise von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg in Gotha . In 1796 he represented the court in negotiations regarding the engagement of Luise Charlotte zu Mecklenburg in Stockholm . In 1806/1807 he was the Duchy's main negotiator with the French and in 1807 headed a delegation from the Mecklenburg estates to Warsaw , where he negotiated with Talleyrand about the return of the ducal family who had fled into exile in Altona . In 1813 he was briefly at the head of the government of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

In 1792 he acquired the Retgendorf estates (now part of the municipality of Dobin am See ), Flessenow, Neu-Schlagstorf (now Neu Schlagsdorf) and Ventschow.

He was initially married to Elisabeth, b. von der Lühe (February 17, 1753 - June 21, 1796). When she died, she left eight minor children. Bülow married in 1798 Charlotte Louise Caroline b. von Oertzen (born April 17, 1764, † February 22, 1833), with whom he had four other children. Heinrich von Bülow and Adolf von Bülow were two of his six sons. Of his daughters, Louise married the head stable master Vollrath Joachim Helmuth von Bülow . He was the grandfather of Helene von Bülow and Bernhard Ernst von Bülow and the great-grandfather of Bernhard von Bülow .

The grave of Bernhard Joachim von Bülow and his second wife is in the church of Retgendorf .
