Göhlen is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is administered by the Office Ludwigslust-Land with its seat in the non-official city of Ludwigslust .

Geography and traffic

Göhlen is about nine kilometers west of Ludwigslust in the Griesen area . The federal highway 5 is reached in the neighboring village of Kummer in only 2½ kilometers. Access to the railway is in Ludwigslust .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1450. Finds, such as the remains of over 500 racing furnaces and iron slag, suggest one of the largest iron smelting sites in northern Germany in the 4th and 5th centuries.

On May 26, 2019, the previously independent municipality of Leussow was incorporated into the municipality of Göhlen. As a result, the community consists of two parts separated by Alt Krenzlin .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "• GEMEINDE GÖHLEN • LANDKREIS LUDWIGSLUST-PARCHIM".
