Princess Haya (2017)

Princess Haya of Jordan ( Arabic هيا بنت الحسين Haya bint al-Hussein ,DMG Hayā bint al-Ḥusain ; * 3. May 1974) is a daughter of the late Jordanian KingHussein I.

It comes from his marriage to his third wife, Alia al-Hussein of Jordan . From 2004 she was the sixth concubine of Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum , the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates . On December 2, 2007, she gave birth to their daughter, Al Jalila, and on January 7, 2012, a son, Zayed.

Princess Haya completed her education in Great Britain, first at the Badminton School for Girls in Bristol , then at the Bryanston School in Dorset . She studied at St Hilda's College of Oxford University , where she graduated with a Bachelor / Master with honors in political science, philosophy and economics.

With a bronze medal in the individual show jumping competition in 1992, Princess Haya is the only woman who has ever won a medal at the Pan-Arab Equestrian Games. In 2000 she started as a show jumper at the Olympic Summer Games in Sydney and was the flag bearer of the Jordanian team at the opening ceremony. In 2002 in Jerez , she was the first Arab woman to take part in the World Equestrian Games .

From 2006 to 2014 she was elected President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). As such, she opened the World Equestrian Games in Aachen on August 20, 2006 . In 2010 she was re-elected by the FEI General Assembly with a large majority. During her tenure, numerous doping cases were known to have occurred among her husband Mohammed Al Maktum's long-distance horses. When she was elected President, she was aware of the conflict of interest between her position as a wife and her duties in the FEI, which is why she delegated powers to the Vice Presidents and the Board of Directors at an early stage. Princess Haya is also a member of the Honorary Committee of the Spanish Riding School .

Since the beginning of 2011, Princess Haya has been the representative of Fegentri , the world umbrella organization for amateur riders.

Princess Haya is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .

In July 2019, she fled to the UK with her two children, Zayed and Al Jalila, and filed for divorce proceedings between her and the Emir of Dubai. Among other things, she filed orders against harassment and protection against forced marriage, as well as a motion for a warning against her husband, the Emir of Dubai, as he requested her return to the emirate. The London High Court sentenced him in the February 2020 lawsuit for the kidnapping of Shamsa Al Maktum and Latifa Al Maktum , the torture of one of his daughters and the intimidation of Haya Bint al-Hussein.
