Alcester (pronounced 'olster' or 'aulster') is an old market town of Roman origin at the confluence of the Alne and Arrow in Warwickshire , England ; the place is about 15 kilometers west of Stratford-upon-Avon . The 2001 census showed 6,214 inhabitants.

In Roman times, Alcester ( Aluana ) was a fortified village at the point where Roman Ryknild Street and the old Salt Way from Droitwich Spa met.
