Anode current characteristic

The KT88 is an electron tube designed as a beam pentode or beam power tetrode (octal socket) with approx. 19  W output power (Po) and a maximum anode power loss of 42 W. The tube is only rarely used in amplifiers for electric guitars. One of the few amplifiers that is equipped with KT88 tubes during manufacture is the Marshall JCM800 "Kerry King" Signature Head (2203KK). The KT88 is, however, even more frequently used with tube amplifiers for electric basses or hi-fi tube amplifiers. The contact assignment is identical to that of a 6L6 .

The KT88 was first introduced in 1956 by the General Electric Company (GEC) as a larger variant of the KT66 . Licensed productions were brought onto the market by Marconi Osram, IEC / Mullard and by Genalex as Gold Lion . Today the tube is manufactured by the Chinese company Shuguang, JJ Electronics (formerly TESLA ) and JSC Svetlana .
